Mental health professionals' feelings and attitudes towards coercion

Despite absence of clear evidence to assert that the use coercion in psychiatry is practically and clinically helpful or effective, coercive measures are widely used. Current practices seem be based on institutional cultures decision-makers' attitudes towards rather than led by recommendations issued from scientific literature. Therefore, main goal our study was describe mental health professionals' feelings characteristics associated with them. Mental professionals working Department Psychiatry Lausanne University Hospital, Switzerland, were invited participate an online survey. A questionnaire explored participants' sociodemographic characteristics, professional background current context, their coercion. Exploratory Structural Equation Modelling (ESEM) used determine structure estimate which extent could predict underlying dimensions. 130 completed Even if a large number considered violation fundamental rights, important percentage them agreed nevertheless indispensable beneficial patients.
